Direct Support Professional - Day Program - Full Time/Part Time

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor and/or Assistant Program Supervisor of the Day Program, provide daily care, direct supervision, and training to individuals served.

Essential Functions

  • The ability to move about the program and do any bending, pushing, pulling, or lifting required in moving work materials about the program.
  • The ability to complete all of the physical requirements of CPR training annually.
  • The ability to perform the safety support skills.

Specific Duties

  • Promote the safety, health, and welfare of the individuals served by consistently following/implementing the individual’s ISP and all ancillary procedures.
  • Comply with agency policies.
  • Administer individual’s medication in accordance with established procedures as requested.
  • Maintain close supervision of individuals at all times.
  • Provide therapeutic activities, supervision, support and training in general areas of self-care, communication, community participation, and socialization, fine and gross motor skills development, personal adjustment, use of community resources and relationship development.
  • Maximize the potential of individuals served by performing the following duties:
    • Provide classroom/activity room instruction within a positive and supportive environment to enhance skills.
    • Develop and implement small group activities based on individuals’ needs, skills and interests.
    • Maintain a positive and stimulating atmosphere within the classroom/activity room.
    • As requested, transport or assist in transport of individuals in agency vehicles.
  • Assist the program in meeting licensing regulations & agency standards.
  • Complete other duties deemed appropriate by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. Previous experience working with disabled individuals in a sheltered workshop environment preferred.  Related experience in educational setting helpful.
