Hope Internship Experience

MaxWorx/Community Services/Residential Services

The intern’s primary duties will be working with and alongside the designated team (production workers on and off-site, Community Services, and/or Residential Services to ensure standards and goals are met. To a lesser degree, exposure to administration outlets may be assigned. In the event the intern is established in a regulated service, he/she will be defined as a “Direct Support Professional,” as these services are responsible to promote and provide to individuals with disabilities.

Hope Enterprise’s major focus of the internship is on earning professional skills, abilities, and activities practiced in settings where the focus is on helping clients develop psychosocial, physical, recreational, vocational/career, social, and/or independent living skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of this position consist of the ability to write, read, and comprehend what is read.  Advanced expressive and receptive language skills are also required in the execution of the responsibilities below.   Technology skills required.  Must possess a valid driver’s license. In the event he/she is defined as a DSP, the employee must be able to transport individuals and be physically present at each service location.  In fulfilling this job, one must be able to meet the physical requirements.  All the above may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

In fulfilling this job, one must possess enough physical mobility and strength to lift at least 50 pounds and possess a high degree of manual dexterity.  Typical duties may include some or all of the following: repackaging cased finish goods, assembling sample kits, packaging hardware kits, basic cutting and drilling, mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, cleaning / disinfecting tables, desks, and chairs, polishing furniture, and simple operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment.

The internship will have necessary support to ensure effective contributions and strategic opportunities. Under supervision, the internship experience will include at least one project that enhances MaxWorx/and or Programs and Services. Projects will be in line with the student’s field of study. Hope Enterprise’s internship will provide a unique opportunity/training experience designed to enhance the professional development and functioning of the student.

  • Facilitate and maintain relationships between the Administrative Entity, Supports Coordination Organization, day programs, and other support services.
  • Avoid allowing personal beliefs and values to influence dealings with individuals receiving services.
  • Attend team meetings, becoming a contributing member of the team involved in making decisions that impact programs and services.

Responsibilities for Programs and Services if assigned

  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training.
  • Ensure compliance with Integration, Everyday Lives, Hope Enterprises, Inc. Policy and Procedures, and current ODP practices and philosophies.
  • Participate in the referral process
  • Participate at ISP (Individual Support Plan) Team Meetings as assigned
  • Submit time records, expense vouchers, and other required personnel forms within established time frames.
  • Adhere to established work schedules.Perform temporary work assignments to alleviate staff shortages and assure consistency in providing services.
  • Meet with supervisor when necessary.
  • Notify and consult with supervisor when additional support is needed.
  • Enhance community/employment connections for individuals by seeking opportunities through regular contacts within local community.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of service documentation.
  • Have full knowledge and comply with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV).
  • Be familiar with Employment Services and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) policy and procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining agency vehicles as required.

Responsibilities for Maxworx if assigned

  • Ensure team member safety and quality of work by maintaining close supervision and professionalism at all times.
  • Facilitate efficient production by setting up work lines and workstations for Production team members
  • Maintain accurate inventories and daily paperwork, i.e. assist Production team members with completion of time sheets
  • Train Production team members on jobs along with instructions on the safe use of hand tools and equipment
  • Facilitate efficient production by setting up work lines and workstations for Production team members
  • Maintain good quality-control standards in conjunction with quality control standards as specified by the customers
  • Aid and train in quality and efficient training with custodial crews. Dust mop, sweep, wet mop floors, vacuuming, and scrubbing as required per customer contract. Other duties will likely include changing trash liners, dusting, glass cleaning if specified within the customer contract.
  • Advise appropriate managers if supplies are needed or if they have any suggestions that may help the team offer better or more efficient services.
  • Assist with agency promotion and customer relationship efforts as requested.
  • Learn to address customer concerns and create bids for new contract opportunities.
  • General maintenance of the warehouse includes organization and cleanliness.
  • Check all shipments and materials received for accuracy and proper paperwork.
  • Coordinate the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Schedule local shipments and deliveries in cooperation with the Maxworx team.
  • Complete shipping order and Authorization Paperwork for shipments.
  • Attend various company training, e.g., First Aid, CPR, Fire Safety, Blood Borne Pathogens, Lifting, forklift training and motor vehicle driver training and other training as required.
  • Implement emergency, evacuation and disaster procedures and plans as required. An essential function of this position includes the ability to respond to and oversee the evacuation of the Production team members in the event of a fire or other emergencies.
  • Support MaxWorx’s mission by participating and contributing member
  • Weekly check-ins with supervisor or as otherwise required per the participating college/university Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Perform job-related duties not defined above, when requested by the Production Manager or Custodial Division Manager
  • Complete supervised internship experience to include at least one project that enhances MaxWorx while meeting the requirements of the internship. Projects will be in line with the student’s field of study.

Responsibilities of Hope Enterprises

  • Provide appropriate working conditions and physical arrangements for the intern, such as desk space for completing paperwork, access to a telephone, and office space in which to meet with clients privately.
  • Provide the minimum face-to-face one-on-one supervisory requirements as outlined by the College.
  • Complete the student evaluation(s) as needed
  • Maintain close communication with the College in relation to internship activities through available means such as site supervisor meetings, correspondence with the Human Service Internship Coordinator, on-site visits by the Internship Coordinator, and telephone and/or e-mail contacts.
  • Monitor student performance and report to the Internship Coordinator if difficulties in performance, ethics or other internship related activities arise. If difficulties arise, follow the
     guidelines for remediation/termination.

    IV.       Notification of Incidents
                A.        Have full knowledge of and comply with Incident Management Policy.

    V.        Other Duties
                A.        Assist with presentations to other agencies, organizations, and interested parties.
                B.        Participate in meetings/committees as assigned.
                C.        Attend and participate in required training, seminars, and/or conferences.
                D.        Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:                        High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.  Experience in human services is preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training is acceptable.  All staff must be at least 18-years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
    Intern must be currently in good academic standing and enrolled in a recognized internship course.
