Senior Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for various higher level accounting and/or financial accounting functions and will participate in both finance and non-finance teams and projects. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and interpretation of month end closing activities, budgeting and financial analysis. The incumbent will report to the Vice President of Finance/CFO and may be required to perform functions of the VP/CFO during their absence.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Maintains accurate and detailed accounting records.
  2. Prepares journal entries, account analyses, reconciliations and internal reporting in order to complete the month end closing process in a timely manner.
  3. Monitors, reviews and reconciles specific general ledger accounts.
  4. Prepares deposits and posts cash to the AR systems.
  5. Assists in the preparation of special analyses as needed.
  6. Compiles the necessary data for preparation of the annual budget.
  7. Compiles, prepares, and verifies all data and journal vouchers necessary to close monthly.
    Maintains fixed asset accounting records.
  8. Monitors the output of information for relevance and recommends changes to systems as necessary.
  9. Provides reports to the VP/CFO, President/CEO, or board of directors as requested
    Participate on assigned committees and teams.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the VP/CFO.

HOURS:  37.5 per week, flexibility required; Exempt position

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 3 to 5 years of successful experience in general accounting, including proficiency with advanced accounting tasks; supervisory experience preferred
  • Technology - Proficiency in use of advanced Excel and other Microsoft applications; proficiency with various financial software

  • Must possess a current, valid driver’s license from state of residency, and when required to drive an agency vehicle, must be insurable under Hope’s insurance carrier.

  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, reach and lift up to 30 pounds.
